I highly suggest a read through of the Johns Hopkins University Infection Prevention Guidelines for Healthcare Facilities with Limited Resources (2003). It describes very useful specifics for fundamentals of practice for infection prevention, along with evidence based standards. This is a free textbook, and I would say it should be required basic reading for body artists, since in some cases we have limited resources compared to clinicians.
Infection Prevention Guidelines for Healthcare Facilities with Limited Resources (2003)
Healthcare workers are at risk of exposure to serious, potentially life-threatening infections unless precautions are taken to prevent infection. The purpose of this manual is to assist healthcare workers and hospital and clinic supervisors, managers and administrators understand the basic principles of infection prevention and recommended processes and practices.
It should be noted that, although you may well learn things that can help elevate your practice as a body artist, these are minimum to intermediate standards, not the most current and timely.
The next step is to look towards putting to use standards from AORN or AST.
